What to Know
Why this report exists
Every welcome bonus on an Australian-facing pokies site comes with a turnover requirement, and nearly every comparison page, ours included, lines them up by the number: 2x beats 3x, 3x beats 5x. Reading the operators’ own terms side by side shows that the number on its own does not tell you what you have to do. Some sites mean “bet this many times the deposit plus bonus”. Some mean “grow your balance to this many times what you started with”. Most do not say which.
This page publishes the wording, the rule it describes, and the other figures a player needs before claiming, for every site we track. It is built from the same weekly re-read of each operator’s promotions page that feeds our reviews, so it changes when the terms do.
Four kinds of wording behind one number
Bets on a named base. The terms say what the multiple applies to. On a A$100 deposit with a A$50 bonus at 3x deposit plus bonus, you place A$450 of bets, then withdraw whatever is left. On pokies returning around 96%, A$450 of bets costs about A$18 on average, so most of the bonus survives.
Balance target, or winover. The balance itself must reach the multiple. The same A$150 at a 3x winover has to become A$450 before you can cash out. Betting does not clear it; winning does. Most sessions end below the target, and then the balance, deposit included, is lost to the requirement. A 3x winover is a much harder condition than 3x in bets, even though both are printed as 3x.
Base named, rule unclear. Some terms read “turnover x3 (final remain credit)” or “turnover x3 (total winnings)”. An amount is named, but not whether you must bet three times that amount or grow your balance to three times it. Read as bets, it is light: a losing session leaves little to bet through. Read as a target, it is as hard as a winover. Both readings fit the words, and we have not confirmed which one these sites apply, so the report does not pick one.
Multiplier only. The terms print “rollover x5” or “hit turnover x2” and stop. Operators usually apply these to deposit plus bonus, but the page does not commit to it, and a support agent’s reading is not a term you can hold anyone to. Before you claim one of these, ask support in the live chat what the multiple applies to, and keep a screenshot of the answer.
How the data is collected
The promotions page of each site is fetched once a week through an Australian connection, and the welcome-bonus block is saved word for word. A script compares it with the previous week’s copy. Unchanged terms get a new “read on” date. Changed terms are logged on the site’s review page and the figures are corrected by hand after checking the operator’s page.
The rule column is not a judgement call. A short, published rule reads the turnover wording: “winover” or a minimum withdrawal set as a multiple of deposit plus bonus marks a balance target; “final remain credit” or “total winnings” next to a multiple marks a named base with an unclear rule; “deposit plus bonus” with a multiple marks bets on a named base; anything else is a multiplier without a base. The same code runs on every site.
Limits of the data
- Only the welcome bonus is covered. Reload, cashback and free-credit offers have their own terms, and many carry a separate cap.
- The wording is what the operator publishes. We record it; we do not claim the site applies it that way. Withdrawal tests are tracked separately on each review.
- A cash-out cap that is not published is recorded as “none published”, which is not the same as no cap. Ask before you rely on it.
- Figures are the operators’ own. Where a site shows a blank in its terms, the blank is kept.
What to do with it
If you are comparing two bonuses, compare the rule before the number. A balance target at 3x is harder to clear than 5x in bets. If the rule is unclear or not stated, the cheapest fix is a one-line question to support before you deposit. What is a winover on a pokies bonus?
A winover is a balance target: your balance has to grow to a multiple of the deposit plus bonus before you can withdraw. It is not cleared by betting. You either win your way to the target or the balance runs out. Terms that say "turnover x3 (final remain credit)" or "(total winnings)" may mean a winover or a betting requirement on that amount; the wording does not settle it, so ask support.
Is a 3x turnover the same at every pokies site?
